What day was it yesterday? What day of the week is it today? What day will it be tomorrow? Sing our days of the week song. Do jazz hands for today.

What is the weather today?

It was the 26th day of the month yesterday. I wonder if you know what the date it is today. How do you know?

Look at the Police line-up of these Villains. Who is the shortest? Tallest? Who is taller than Scar? Shorter than Hades? How can you prove it?

Could you draw your own villain line up?

Morning Play and Learn

Superheroes need a badge. Like Batman has the bat and Spiderman has a spider. Can you draw a badge and then ask a grown up to cut the shape out of a potato (cut potato in half)? Then choose the colour of paint you would like your badge to be. Dip or paint the potato in the coloured paint and then press it onto paper. You will leave a print of your badge. You could make lots of badges. When they dry you could cut them out and leave them as a token at every rescue you make. That way people know that you were there.

It is more of a reading exercise. As before, as your child to point out the digraph or trigraph in the word first. Remind them to break longer words up into chunks.

Morning Play and Learn

Every super hero needs a cape, but what material in the best? Find a selection of 3 materials. You could use cotton sheet, tin foil, paper, cardboard, a towel or bubble wrap…anything you have available at home. Write down the name of the three materials. Use your phonics. First, look at the materials and suggest which material you think will work the best. Explain why you think that. Next test the materials. How will you test the materials? What does a cape need to do? You could attach it to your collar and run. Does it flap when you run? Is it strong? Is it comfortable. Next mark your materials 1-3. 1 being the best and 3 being the worst. Which material is the best? Why? Is it the material that you thought would be the best?

Phonics – (Don’t forget about the Letters and Sound Home and School resource.)

Will Mr Stink try to fight you? You can ask a grown up to scribe what you say once you have written at least two sentences of your own.

Put the pages 1, 2, and 3 into order. You have written your own story. Isn’t that clever. Read your story back. Is it exciting? You could put the pages together like a book and add your own front cover.

Afternoon Play and Learn –

Today, you will either need some masking tape, big paper or an area outside that you can scribe on. The tape or paper needs to secured vertically onto a wall. Next, choose 5 of your soft toys. Now, just as you would if you were getting your height measured, put the toys one by one against the wall to mark their height. Which one is the tallest? Shortest? Can you describe a toy that is shorter than another toy? Taller than another toy? Use the words tall, taller, tallest, short, shorter and shortest to describe the height of your toys. What could you use to measure the height of each sot toy? You could stack blocks and then count the blocks. Don’t forget to record how many blocks tall each soft toy is.

Morning Play and Learn

Research – A long time ago in Ancient Greece, the Greeks believed in a Gods and Goddesses. The head God was called Zeus. He was the God of the sky and Thunder. The good Gods lived on top of a very high mountain in Greece. Thy called it Mount Olympus. The Greeks shared lots of stories about Heroes that were instructed by Zeus to save the world. One of the Greeks favourite heroes was a man called Herakles. He is also known as Hercules like it the Disney film. He was very strong and killed lots of Monsters. Unfortunately, the world was not just full of Heroes and Gods, there was also the villain Hades. He was the God of the Underground which means he lived below in the middle of the world where it is hot and dark and gloomy. I would like you to research Herakles. Find out about one of his hero stories. You could draw a picture to describe what happened. You could even write a sentence to describe what happened.

Hades – God of the Underground

Zeus – God of the sky and Lightening

Click on the link below. Select phase 4 and then click on all of phase 4. For each word, start by asking your child you point out any digraphs or trigrpahs. This will help them break up the word correctly. Then ask your child to sound out the word and then blend to read. Remind your child to break longer words up into readable chunks and then blend the chunks together. Your child then needs to decide if the word is a real or fake word and select the correct dragon. Can they say a sentence that includes the real word? This checks that they know the meaning of the word. If they do not know the meaning, then explain and discuss the meaning.

https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/DragonsDen.html#

English/ Communication and Language –

At the top of your paper write the number 1.

Write a sentence and draw a picture to explain how you thought Mrs Taylor was captured. Think about what she was doing before she was captured. How did Mr Stink get her to his Lair? Why did he capture her? You can ask a grown up to scribe what you say once you have written at least two sentences of your own.

Afternoon Play and Learn –

Snuggle down and watch or read your favourite superhero film or book. I love watching the ‘Incredibles’ film and I love to read ‘Superato’. Netflix has a wide range of superhero programmes at the moment, if you have access. Watch how the superhero moves around in different ways. Maybe you could copy the moves. What superpowers does the Hero have? Who is the Villain? How do the superheroes defeat the Villain?

End of the Home School Day –

Tidy up all your play and learn mess. Have a chill and read a book with a grown up. Don’t forget to check our caterpillar page to see how they are changing and growing.

Thinking back to when you started to grow your plants, how tall are they now? Are they all the same height? Can you spot the tallest plant? Can you spot the shortest plant? Isn’t it funny that you planted them at the same time but they are all different heights? They are all different and special just like all the children in our class. You are all different heights too.

When you were younger, were you shorter than you are now? Have you measured your height since you were little? How tall do you think you will grow?

Have a go at the computer game below. It will help you revise length and help you practise recognising height.
