Now, the children can recognise coins and recognise the value of coins. Can they work out which coins they can use to buy something? Create price tags on pieces of small paper. Look at a price tag with the pence sign. Explain what the symbol means. Ask them what coins they would use to pay for something of 5p. Are there different ways of paying for something of 5p? Use coins to demonstrate.
Use the price tags to price toys and items. All items should be 10p or below. Allow for 1 item per child. Hand the children some coins each. Can they choose an item to buy and they use their coins to buy it? What coins do they choose?
Add price tags with the pence sign on to the ice cream role play area. Can the children choose the correct money during role play?

Have a bag of items, that may be seen from a train window e.g animals, vehicles, buildings, scenery pictures. Try to choose things that are not in the story. Can the children make their own version? Use the prompts in the bag to develop the filler sentence. Use the repeated phrases on the paper to keep the rhyme. Can you lay out the version? Take photos. Tomorrow, we will write a few sentences of our won version.
