It is so important for use to tackle this topic head on and not shy away from it if the questions get uncomfortable. Look at the shape. The flat shape on the sides is called a face. What face shapes can you see? Can you paint and print the face shapes on each 3D shape? You can clearly see the different face shapes. How many square faces does a cube have? How many circle faces does a cylinder have? A Sphere, a cylinder and a cone has a curved surface. Is it not flat so it is not a face.
Morning Play and Learn – On your daily exercise walk today, look for 3D shapes. Can you take a photo of the shapes you see? You could print the shapes out and then put them into group piles.

Sweet, clown, brush, toast, chest, chimp and spoon Pick an item, and sound it out together. Model writing each sound on paper. Blend the sounds and read the word together. Add sound buttons under each sound. Next, can your child write the word for each item and add the sound buttons. You could sound out the word together first, and then the child can write the word.

Today, we are going to look at the tricky word ‘so’.
How many letters are in the word? What are the letters?
Sound the word out. It does not make sense. It cannot be sounded out. That is why it is a tricky word.
It looks like do and to, but they make an ‘oo’ sound.
Write the word. Draw around the word. It has two small.
Get two pieces of paper, and write each letter on it. Can you put them in order to spell the tricky word ‘so’.
Now can you think and write a sentence with the word ‘so’ in it?
You could cut an s and an o into a halved potato, and then print the potato stamp. Keep practising writing and reading the tricky word so.

Write some CVCC words such as help, nest, melt, stop, flag, grab, trap, pink, and lamp. Play with someone. Can you read the word? First person to get a line of 3 is the winner. You could play this with a ball or with water balloons. Write a CVCC word on the balloon or ball. Throw the balloon or ball to each other and read the word. If you use a ball, then you could write words all over the ball and read the first one you see. If you use a balloon, then write one word on each balloon. See if you can catch the balloon without it popping and splashing you with water.
English/ Communication and Language – Can you draw your own family tree? In the story Stickman, they live in a family tree. A family tree is used to describe all the people that live in your family. If you think of your grandparents as being the trunk, then your parents are thick branches and then you and your siblings are the smaller branches. Could you draw a tree and label the tree to show all the members in your family? I have drawn mine as an example.
Afternoon Play and Learn – In school we are washing the dolls and the dolls clothes in soapy water. We are then hanging them up to dry on the washing line. Maybe you could do this? You could clean any of your toys. I know diggers and cars get very dirty and need cleaning too.

Morning Play and Learn Can you find some 3D shapes in your kitchen cupboards? What shapes do you see? You could draw the items or take photos. Can you categorise the items. You could put all the cylinders together and all the cuboids together. How do you know that is it that shape? Describe the properties of the shape.

It is important to look after how you feel. Before Half Term, it was Mental Health Awareness week. We thought about ways to look after ourselves. They were to stay connected with others, be active, learn new skills, be kind and give to others and to pay attention to what makes you happy. At the moment, things can feel a little bit strange and maybe scary. It is important to look after how we are feeling.

Tidy up, snuggle up and read a story.
Little Note to say…
After the weekend, some of you are returning to school. You may have a funny feeling about returning. You may feel excited but also nervous. That is ok. I know that as soon as we have started our school day you will feel so much better. If you arrive at the school gate, and you feel a bit worried, can I ask that you and your grown up go for a walk around the playground? This means I can get the other children that are waiting into the classroom. Then when the other children are settled, I can come and help you. It might help to see your friends arriving into school. If you need a hand to hold or some comfort then the staff will ask your grown up if that is ok and we can take you into the classroom. We will try to keep our safe space around us, but we understand that sometimes you will need a grown up to help you. We can then wash our hands.
I have put a box near between the two Reception classrooms labelled ‘Books’. Please put in your child’s reading books from last term. I will then seal the box ready to be opened at a later date. Your children will continue to read at home from their Rising Star online Library.
As soon as you get into school, then you will wash your hands and sit in a spot in the classroom. Your teacher will then tell you what to do next.
I am so excited to see you and I know all the other grown ups are too.
To those children that are staying at home in your family bubble, I will have work on the blog for you on Monday. It will just be the same as we have done. You will be learning the same as the children in school. We will revise everything again when you all come back into school. I really miss you but I understand all your individual reasons to stay at home. Keep safe and I can’t wait to see you soon.

Challenge – Can you count backwards from 20? This week, we have thought about sharing numbers. I would like you to draw around the top of a glass twice to make two circles as shown. We are going to answer some sharing problems. I will do the first one with you.
Can you do the next questions?
Play and Learn Look at the shapes in the painting by Picasso. What shapes can you see?
Find a picture of yourself. A print out copy would be ideal. Can you cut it up into lots of different shapes? Then put the picture back together but all jumbled. You could put your eye next to your chin. When you are happy with your funny Picasso face, stick the pieces down onto another piece of paper. You could use colouring pencils to fill in the gaps. Remember to think about the colours you use. Think about how you are feelings and which colour shows how you feel. Are you angry? If so you could use red. Are you happy? I think yellow is a happy colour. You choose. It is your artwork.
