Start of the day –

What is the month of the year? Sing our month of the year song. Do jazz hands for this month.

What day was it yesterday? What day of the week is it today? What day will it be tomorrow? Sing our days of the week song. Do jazz hands for today.

What is the weather today?

It was the 8th day of the month yesterday. I wonder if you know what the date it is today. How do you know?

Maths –

Youtube video – count and move song– count to 20 and march.  Maybe you could march around your house. Use a number line to help if you need to.

Make a rocket and count down from 20. Remember to jump really high when you blast off into the sky.

Guess the coin game – In my purse I have a bronze circular large coin? What is it? Use clues to describe the coins. Can the children work out the coin?

Going on a pirate treasure hunt. Hide coins around the house or outdoors. Set the children a challenge to find as many coins as they can. Set a timer of 1 minute. When the time is up, return to the carpet and count how much they have found.

Provide the children with treasure map (link below). Can the children hide the coins and draw maps for other members of the family? Remind them to put a cross in the location of the coins. Use preposition words e.g. under the tree, behind the sofa. Count how much treasure you find.

Blend song

Use your sound mat in your pack and recall all the sounds we have learnt. How fast can you recognise all the sounds (phase 2 and 3)?

Ask the children to listen to and blend the sounds and try to work out the consonant blend that is in each word. Sound out these words frantic, freezer, fresh, from, frill. The children blend the sounds and repeat the word. Can they work out the blend for today? Show the blend DR. Write the words on the board, and add sound buttons.

Can you think of any other words with the ‘FR’ blend? Write the words down. Read all the words. Ask the children to put some of the words into a sentence to share meaning of word.

Loop game – This game can be played as a group or individually. If played as a group then share the cards between the group members. If played individually then lay the cards out on a flat surface, read each card and match it to the next card to create a domino style layout. The game starts with Go and the last card will say Stop. Read the word and the image on another card will match.

Yesterday you made some funny versions of the nursery rhyme. Today, can you write your favourite version down? Share your writing at the end of the lesson. You can all join in and sing each other’s rhymes.
