Start of the day –

What is the month of the year? Sing our month of the year song. Do jazz hands for this month.

What day was it yesterday? What day of the week is it today? What day will it be tomorrow? Sing our days of the week song. Do jazz hands for today.

What is the weather today?

It was the 1st yesterday. I wonder if you know what the date it is today. How do you know?

 

Maths –

Pretend to be a rocket and count down from 10. Challenge – Can you count backwards from 20?

The children can work out the price of an item and use the correct coins to pay. Can they now work out the change needed from a larger coin? They will need to remember subtracting. Model finding change. So an item is 6p. I have 10p. I pay with 10p and the shop keeper gives me change. How much change does he give me? Model finding 10 on the numberline and taking 6 jumps backwards. The number you land on gives you the amount of change.

Can the children complete this problem?

A girl goes into a shop with 5p. She buys a sweet for 2p. How much change has she?

Challenge – A girl goes into a shop with 5p and she buys two items. The first item is 1p and the second is 2p. How much change does she get back? Can you prove it?

Encourage the children to give change in the role play ice cream parlour.

Can you think of any other words with the ‘gl’ blend? Write the words down. Sound out the words, write and add sound buttons.

Make a sandwich to take with you on your journey. Look at a sound on your sound mat in your pack. Can you think of some food that starts with this sound? Let’s add it to our sandwich. Write the fillings down. The sandwich can be as funny and disgusting as the children like. Repeat with a different sound

English/ Communication and Language –

Using yesterday’s lesson as a guide, can the children make their own version. Provide the children with a sheet that has the ‘’What shall I see? What shall I see?’’ and ‘’That’s what I see, that’s what I see.’’  Can they fill in what to see out the window? They can use their ideas from yesterday. Can you draw a picture to illustrate your sentence?
